Sam has over ten years of experience in the clean energy industry. Areas of expertise include project development, renewable energy, microgrids, energy efficiency, and finance. He is currently helping Marine Corps installation Miramar to develop and build the most advanced installation scale microgrid in the DoD and recently helped the installation commission and test a 100% renewable microgrid through ESTCP. He also helped develop NREL’s net zero energy installation assessment process and managed NREL support for the Army’s net zero energy program. He has worked on numerous international projects including most recently supporting the Millennium Challenge Corporation with project development in Indonesia. Sam has also worked with the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) on alternative finance projects and with the Department of Energy Sunshot program. Prior to joining NREL Sam worked in energy/aerospace research and development engineering. He has B.S. degrees from the University of Colorado in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering plus a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Boston University.
